Personal Digest Saturday: March 18 – March 24

Life news this week:

  • Saturday we had to clear out of our vacation house before 10 AM. It was a little stressful making sure everyone was ready, packing up food and recycling (we decided to take our recycling with us because this neighborhood didn't have recycling pickup), and making sure we didn't break any rules about leaving. But we got out in time and went on our merry (separate) ways. Jeaux and I went back to Tampa and I gave him some of the food we'd gotten to take. Then I unpacked, took a nap, and sent a Polo to my sister. Got my photo page up for the vacation and got my blogging done, and caught up on some news from the week.

  • Sunday I did laundry and relaxed. I got a karaoke song done and did a couple more Polos, and I did my laundry and trash as usual. Watched some reactions on YouTube and started working on the next podcast.

  • Monday I went back to work and dug myself out of the build-up that had accumulated while I'd been gone. We got shortlisted in my absence, and there was a small heap of tasks to complete. I got busy taking care of everything and worked a little longer than usual. It was tough to get my steps in at the end of the day since I'd spent so much time in the chair. I got some more of the podcast done and recorded/listened to Polos.

  • Tuesday the internet went out shortly before I would have gone to work, and though we got a notification that it should be restored by 11 AM, that didn't happen and it ended up being out ALL DAY until 9 at night. I missed multiple meetings and fell behind on my work again, which was the last thing I needed after a vacation had already put me behind. But I managed to make good use of the day, finishing the podcast editing, redecorating for the equinox, and doing some preliminary calculations for how much people owe for the vacation. In the evening Yasmin happened to be in my neighborhood and came over with a panini and a latte for me and we caught up on stuff going on in each of our lives. They're going through a lot that sounds like a big struggle. After the internet came back I actually hopped on and did several hours of work in the wee hours.

  • Wednesday I went to work and did some data entry and more catch-up on marketing and organizational tasks. Jeaux did my grocery shopping for me so I had to write him a list. We planned it that way so we could go out to dinner at a special place where we had reservations to celebrate our 23rd anniversary of being friends (aka Jeauxversary). After work I got ready and we headed over to Cena, where I had a mushroom risotto. Then we just caught up on Colbert and took a walk and talked at each other.

  • Thursday I did more reports and helped process paperwork for a new hire. Also had to help a coworker with some crash data. Completed what I had of data entry for my data entry project and did some walking. Went to game night and got some updates from Fred and Kathy about their status. Did some more webcomic stuff but went to bed early. Oh and Jeaux called me to tell me a silly story about getting locked out of his apartment.

  • Friday I kept getting kicked off the internet while trying to START my work. It took like 3 hours before I could even get started with my work. I ended up just not doing the most demanding stuff because it let me do other stuff if I didn't (and I ended up being late to a meeting because it wouldn't let me on and then getting kicked out of the meeting once after I got in successfully). It was a pain all day. Finally I rebooted my modem and router and after taking a very long time to come back everything was normal again. I got timesheets and reports done and after work I finished my comic and posted it and updated some photo page stuff.
Health Plan Update:

  • Weight stuff: Back into a more "regular" eating situation and I had no issues. A little heavy on the snacking maybe. High weight: 120.3. Low weight: 118.9.
  • Nutrition stuff: From Saturday to Wednesday I was just eating what was in the house, though; I didn't have fresh stuff available because I had been out of town and didn't have new groceries until Wednesday. So I had a lot of frozen food and canned/boxed food--high sodium and probably not enough protein. I got fresh veggies back into my diet toward the end of the week. Still consistently taking the vitamins.
  • Activity stuff: I met my walking goal every day this week. My low day was Saturday at 10,005 steps, and my high day was Thursday at 12,203 steps.

  • Finished Reading: Nothing this week.

  • Currently Reading: A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik. I'm on page 211.

Personal Digest Saturday: March 11 – March 17

    Life news this week:

    • Saturday was my last day before heading out to Davenport so I spent most of the day packing and finishing stuff so I would be ready to go in the morning. Did a lot of finalizing Polos with Meg to wrap up our plans. Also did 2 loads of laundry. And Polo'd my friend Ben as a break! I completed editing the next Not-So-Giant Women video and updated my webcomic pages to make it easier to post while out of town.

    • Sunday I got up kinda late and finished my last few tasks before leaving town--mostly taking out trash and watering plants and stuff. Then Jeaux picked me up and we drove to Davenport, stopping for some Beef O'Brady's on the way. Dare beat us to the house and we managed to get in despite the tricky enter pad. When Meg arrived we spent some time putzing around the cool EIGHT-BEDROOM FIVE-BATH house we'd rented and checked out what supplies we might need, and we then went to the store and spent close to five hundred dollars on groceries for the week. Came home and put our stuff away, and then I made enchiladas for everyone (with help from Jeaux) and we hung out more. I made blondies late at night for everyone to eat and cleaned up the kitchen. Then I unpacked. I elected to take the Frozen-themed room because it had kid-sized beds and I'm the smallest person in attendance.

    • Monday I didn't have to work because I am on vacation! We all had coffee and cereal and went swimming. It got cold! We had a small lunch and Dare and I played ukulele together. Then we played pool and games and relaxed. Meg's kids, Katelyn and Benjamin, plus Katelyn's boyfriend Ryan, arrived before dinner. Meghan made chicken marsala and Dare and I helped out making sides (so I got to have the potatoes and broccoli). Adam arrived just before dinner, much to Meg's happiness, and we all had a great dinner. Then we all hung out talking and I made oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips. Dare and Jeaux and I took a late-night walk around the neighborhood. And I got a call from Fred saying he and Kathy wouldn't be coming after all because he came down with Covid. Huge, huge bummer.

    • Tuesday I drank coffee with people in the morning and had a bagel for breakfast. People went swimming but I didn't. I did a little reading and a little drawing, took a walk with Jeaux, played some games, and then went shopping with Dare, Meg, and Adam to get our next smaller grocery items. And I started writing a short story! Steve arrived late in the day after driving from Tennessee with his daughter Dolly. We ordered pizza (which is what Benny likes) and sat around outside eating it and chatting. It was cool getting to finally meet Dolly. People hung out in the living room watching crap on TV and I made cinnamon rolls. (They had to refrigerate overnight so I had to rearrange the fridge to get them in there.) After everyone went to bed I worked on the story a little more.

    • Wednesday I got up to bake the cinnamon rolls and had coffee. Meggie made some bacon and I made omelets and tater tots for everyone. We spent most of our morning in our PJs chatting about politics, and then we took a walk and watched The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, sitting in the cool theater room they have in the house. In the evening Meg made her famous lasagna (and was nice enough to make it meatless so I could have it!) and I made garlic bread and salad to go with. Then we ate and played Cards Against Humanity after. At night I took a walk with Jeaux and Dolly and then went to bed.

    • Thursday I got up to make biscuits and Meghan made sausage gravy. We also heated up the leftover tater tots and they were a hit with this breakfast. Went on a walk and then sat around eating fruit and chips-and-dips next to the pool. Some people swam but I didn't. At night I made an ambitious pan-Asian meal (thai noodles with sauce I made and vegetables, covered in crushed peanuts; spring rolls; and hot and sour soup). After we ate that we played Jackbox games, which we always do on Thursday nights anyway but this time it was neat to do it all in one room (except Fred and Kathy joined us remotely and it was nice to see them!). Afterwards I cleaned a bunch and then we watched an episode of Centaurworld (to show Dolly its weirdness) and I posted the webcomic after midnight before I went to sleep.

    • Friday was the last full day in the house. I didn't have to make breakfast so I slept late. We had various breakfasts and coffee, then watched another movie in the theater room (Yellowbeard), and then took a walk with Jeaux. We then cut up the remains of the dippable food and fruit and brought it out by the pool. I finally took another swim and after I got out we hung out by the pool a while. Adam started up the grill and grilled us food (I got veggie burgers and veggie dogs!) and we ate the food while watching Everything Everywhere All at Once (my first time seeing it, and I loved it). After movies, another walk with Jeaux, Dare, and Dolly, and then we played uke some more and relaxed. Dare and I cleaned up the kitchen and then I packed my stuff for the morning, and played some of the arcade games before going to bed.

    Health Plan Update:

    • Weight stuff: It's a vacation week so I was out of town and eating weird food all week! I didn't weigh myself while on vacation so I only have data from Saturday and Sunday. High weight: 118.4. Low weight: 118.4.
    • Nutrition stuff: I didn't go overboard even though I was on vacation, but I ate a lot of richer dishes and more snacks than usual. I wouldn't be surprised if my protein was very low since I was staying with meat-eaters and didn't buy any vegetarian supplements really, so my protein was probably pretty sorry this week. Still consistently taking the vitamins.
    • Activity stuff: I met my walking goal every day this week. My low day was Thursday at 10,440 steps, and my high day was Sunday at 12,221 steps.

Personal Digest Saturday: March 4 – March 10

      Life news this week:

      • Saturday I had plans with my mom but she canceled so I didn't have anything pressing to do. I worked on my podcast and planned my next webcomic way ahead of schedule because with a vacation coming up I'm going to have to be a week ahead in order to post it on time while I'm out of town. I did my blogging and practiced ukulele. I took a walk outside and found a downed cable looping down on the street that looked super dangerous. So I stood in the road waving people around it until I could get the utility people to come look at it. The truck got there in only a few minutes and was able to pull the line away from the road. Whew. Then I talked to Meg on Polo.

      • Sunday I had plans with my mom starting at noon, so of course they didn't actually start until 3 PM. Until then I just worked on comics and ukulele practice. When my mom did finally pick me up, I helped her put down a carpet, climbed all around putting knickknacks back up on ledges after her paint job, got some stuff down from cabinets for her, put up a picture on the wall, hung her shower curtain, and cleaned her kitchen floor. Also got a few photos to use in my sister's upcoming birthday card. After I got home I did my Sunday chores (laundry, trash) and later practiced ukulele some more.

      • Monday I had just one letter to send out and spent the rest of the day working on data stuff. I finished reading Cody's book I Am Ace just a little while before hopping on the book panel with him and another ace content creator. The three of us had a really nice time talking asexuality activism and answering people's questions. Over 130 people attended live. After the panel I put the link up in all the places where people care about that. Then I did more uke practice and comics.

      • Tuesday I spent the day going to like 8 billion meetings (okay, it was four). I did a bunch of research on Department designees to help my engineers tailor their letters to the right people. After work I drew comics, practiced uke, and put away laundry while recording Polos. We delivered our birthday card to my sister a day early because she was going on a cruise.

      • Wednesday was my sister Lindsay's birthday. Sister Patricia put together a very cute presentation using the photos I found and some of my ideas, and the family pooled money to buy her a bunch of gift cards. (It's a milestone birthday so we made a big deal.) I spent the day at work analyzing crash data, downloading straight line diagrams, collecting info sheets, and researching utilities for projects we're responding to a month or so from now. Jeaux came over after work and we got food from Burger 21, ate it while watching Colbert, took a walk, and watched a few more episodes of Heartstopper, which I am loving. After he left I practiced uke and drew.

      • Thursday I had three meetings and dug up data for several more projects (now working on the ones to keep us a month ahead during my week that I will be on vacation). I also took a walk to the post office to mail my friend Paul a present. Then I did drawings and Polos, played games in the evening with my friends, and fell asleep early like a butt.

      • Friday I did all my upcoming project reports and project manager reports and collected timesheets. Also had to edit and send out a letter which is due Monday (but I won't be there). Worked on my podcast, talked to my sister on Polo, and did some preparations for my upcoming vacation.

      • Spoon Knife 7 has opened for preorder. I sold a story and it will appear in this book. It comes out next month.

      Health Plan Update:

      • Weight stuff: This week I continued to make good food choices and just keep eating to times when I'm actually hungry. Even better results this week. High weight: 120.3. Low weight: 118.4.
      • Nutrition stuff: I was again very close to the balance of recommended carb/fat/protein amounts this week. I'm having vegetables and fruit every day. I have been big on cereal for breakfast, veggie burger for lunch, and potato with vegetables for dinner, plus yogurt and grapes for snack. I ran out of my spinach and bananas early this week and didn't get more because I'm about to go on vacation and didn't want highly perishable produce in my fridge. Still consistently taking the vitamins.
      • Activity stuff: I met my walking goal every day this week. My low day was Monday at 10,012 steps, and my high day was Thursday at 15,311 steps.

Book Panel: A Room of One’s Own I AM ACE Panel Discussion

I was a panelist at A Room of One’s Own’s book panel for the I AM ACE Panel Discussion.  This panel, organized by Caide Jackson, featured Cody Daigle-Orians with their new book I AM ACE, along with fellow ace activists Ashabi Owagboriaye and me. We covered some asexuality-related topics and some content-creation-related topics and then took questions from the crowd. Very well attended and a lovely time. You can watch it on replay.

Personal Digest Saturday: February 25 – March 3

        Life news this week:

        • Saturday I had to finish my podcast planning and then my blogging. I got kinda sidetracked trying to put together the meal plan for our upcoming vacation, but was happy to come out of it with a map of our meals and a full shopping list, plus a couple other documents for our reference. Had to squeeze some walking in before the podcast recording started. Daria and I caught up for more than an hour before we actually started our recording. We got done close to midnight doing our recordings for "Onion Gang" and the season 4 shorts. Sadly band practice was canceled because of a death in one of our band members' family.

        • Sunday I used the day of free time I hadn't planned for to get some stuff together for my next Letters to an Asexual video. I had asked people to submit stories for me to read about asexuality (either funny "very ace moment" stories or their favorite joyful moments associated with asexuality) and I got a lot of submissions so I spent a lot of the day processing them and managed to get the whole video recorded. But processing takes a long time so I didn't really put a dent in it. Also did laundry, took out trash, voted by mail in the local election, ate a potato, and read.

        • Monday I used my time very wisely! At work I spent a bunch of time on utility data gathering and downloading/processing information about upcoming projects. My crash data website wasn't working so I had to skip that part of my work. After work I listened to Polos while walking and putting away laundry. Then I drew my monthly webcomic, processed more of the video, and even got some time to screw around on Twitter a little. Finished some stuff online and donated to a fundraiser.

        • Tuesday I spent a LOT of frustrating time on the crash data site trying to see if it was messing up because of anything I was doing. Couldn't get it to work. Processed some light pole data into a spreadsheet for my coworkers. Talked to Meg about vacation planning. Finally finished processing Letters to an Asexual #100 (the transcript takes a long time to type up on long videos, and this one was over 90 minutes long). I had to redo the processing at one point because I left in something I meant to cut out so I had to reupload and everything. I did get it up before the end of the day though which was good because I like to get them done once a month. I also paid my taxes and paid Mom's taxes and talked to Mom on the phone about when I would come help her with some stuff at her house she can't do by herself.

        • Wednesday I got assigned even more work to do for upcoming projects so each one is going to be a whole process now. Don't mind at all, since this is one way I can definitely help my coworkers. The crash statistics page was STILL misbehaving so I just focused on the other data and utilities for upcoming projects, and instead of having like 2 like usual we have SEVEN so I was VERY busy. Missed out on paying Tony for cutting my lawn because he left before I could get out there. Argh! Went out with Jeaux and we got McAlister's food, watched Colbert, and took our walk. We started watching Heartstopper, only one episode but YAY I love it. After he left I practiced ukulele.

        • Thursday I sent a report to a coworker before going out and getting my first professional massage. It was pretty nice and I was happy with it. Came back to work after and the crash statistics site WAS WORKING AGAIN so I got to go handle the backlog of crash stats I hadn't been able to look up. I took a nap after work, wrote a webcomic, and played games with friends online. After, I worked on Not-So-Giant Women's next episode.

        • Friday I had a meeting and spent the rest of the day working on upcoming project reports and crash data. After work we did some planning for what to get my sister for her birthday and I worked on my comic. I got it posted, got my steps in, worked on Not-So-Giant Women some more, and practiced ukulele.

        New Reviews:

        • Amazon Customer gave The Invisible Orientation a three-star review on Audible.
        • Jacqui gave The Invisible Orientation a one-star review on Goodreads. (The reader compared me to an "unqualified male anthropologist" and suggested the pushback asexual people receive is too unsubstantiated to know if it actually happens. Heh.)
        • Defne gave The Invisible Orientation a three-star review on Goodreads. (One thing they mentioned is that I argue asexuality isn't an inherently queer orientation which is out of date. That's not what the book says. I do say that some people, including some asexual people, don't consider asexuality queer, and that is still true today; it should be okay if some people don't identify as queer even if some others with the same identity do. I say this as someone who is asexual and identifies as queer on basis of asexuality, and the book absolutely does also contain the perspective that asexuality IS inherently queer.)

        Health Plan Update:

        • Weight stuff: I really buckled down and made an effort to a) make good food choices and b) not eat when I'm not hungry. I'm finally seeing some results from that. High weight: 121.0. Low weight: 119.5.
        • Nutrition stuff: I stuck very close to the balance of recommended carb/fat/protein amounts this week. It helps that I would look at how things looked when evening approached and choose my dinner to help balance it. I'm having vegetables and fruit every day and I feel really good about it. Still consistently taking the vitamins.
        • Activity stuff: I met my walking goal every day this week. My low day was Thursday at 10,006 steps, and my high day was Monday at 11,386 steps.

I hope you enjoy them.
