Personal Digest Saturday (but posted on Monday!): December 20 – December 26

Life news this week:

  • Saturday I kinda dragged my feet getting anything done. It was my nephew's twelfth birthday and I still didn't have all the stuff I needed to send their holiday package, so I sent him a photo of his presents wrapped and he laughed. Then their power went out and stayed out (the big San Francisco blackout!) so it was kinda a crappy birthday for him. I updated some stuff on Negative One's pages and got mad at my loud, inconsiderate neighbors for singing amplified karaoke outside for hours and throwing tons of trash over the fence into my yard. Ughhh. I finally started making cookies for my holiday stuff, starting with a batch of cardamom cookies that Meghan asked for for her holiday gift. (I put them in the freezer.) Kari came over to distract me and we took a nice walk. After she left I did my blogging and worked on my book.

  • Sunday I got some laundry started in the morning and threw the neighbors' trash back over their fence. Took out my own trash, sent a Polo to Meg, and lit candles for the last day of Hanukkah. Made some spritz cookies (and got mad that one of my cookie presses got jammed, so I switched to the other one; I fixed it later). So many cookies! I organized another band name poll and made a to-do list for holiday stuff. Submitted a short story. Did some aerobics. Talked to a Tumblr user about Steven Universe merch. Did some voice-over auditions.

  • Monday I had to edit a letter, bother people about utilities, and invite teaming partners. Then after work I put away laundry, drew all of Negative One (early, because I was gonna be preparing for having people over Saturday), and made four-way drop cookies--a cookie type that has the same base recipe but different mix-ins (M&Ms, sprinkles, jimmies, and Kisses). I also made my dough for pinwheel cookies (they had to refrigerate) and made meringues with leftover egg whites. Then I washed all the dishes, cleaned the back room of my house, and edited a chapter of my book. Also found out I got on the shortlist of not one but two voice-over projects.

  • Tuesday I worked but there was an access outage for part of the shift so I used the time to prepare presents for my sister's package. I had been hoping the final item would get delivered to me in time for me to walk the package to the post office but it didn't come in time. (It did arrive after 5 that day.) I cleaned the bathrooms in my house, removed wax from my menorah for next year, did some aerobics, and sliced and baked my pinwheel cookies from the previously made dough. Unfortunately, then my air conditioner stopped working. Ugh, just in time to go into holiday mode when no one will be available to fix it. Jeaux came over (a day earlier than usual) and took me to Moe's for dinner and then grocery shopping. When we got home he rebuilt my DDR pad with new panels that were my holiday present! It took a while. Then we watched The Elephant (really cool new animation project) and hung out. And I worked on my book.

  • Wednesday I was off for Christmas Eve. I relaxed in the morning, then tackled a project I've been meaning to tackle all year: I sanded a decorative pillar I adopted from my mom's house, cleaned it, and painted it. Then left it outside to dry. Then I wrapped presents in between watching episodes of the second season of Fionna and Cake. Then I cleaned the living room and vacuumed. I made cardamom cookies and worked on my party playlist. I stayed up way too late.

  • Thursday I was off for Christmas Day. I brought my painted pillar in and rearranged plants in my house to decide what would be on it. Sent a Polo to my sister and then listened to a friend's Christmas carol compilation (which I guest-sang on a few songs!). I listened while cleaning the office. Then I caught a lizard in the air conditioning vent while replacing the filter. Haha. I was nervous about whether someone was going to respond to the air conditioning maintenance request I'd sent, hoping someone would come out to help the next day because I needed to have the air working or everyone was going to come to my place on Saturday and be hot. I called the emergency maintenance line (which is new!) and they actually answered! They said they would get the work order entered and then I got a bunch of weird e-mails responding to the wrong maintenance requests before I finally got one that made sense assigning a vendor. So after dealing with that I did some laundry, did some weight lifting, and made snowball cookies. I also submitted a short story and a query and worked on my comic.

  • Friday I had to work. I did reports and processed some timesheet stuff. Then I went on a quest to get my air conditioning fixed because my property management was ignoring me and at this point I'd been without A/C for four days (yes, it is still hot here). I didn't want to face having family and friends over in a hot box with the oven on from cooking our holiday lunch, man. I ended up trying to negotiate with the A/C company and they wouldn't let me hire them directly without the property manager's permission, so I ended up calling my house's homeowner for the very first time. She is the sweetest person and she called the A/C company and bypassed everything and a tech came out and fixed it (temporarily; a part will need to be replaced). Score! Finally I processed Negative One and posted it, sent a Polo to Meg, and made waffle cookies. Jeaux came over with some groceries I needed and brought the table into the living room for me for our lunch. Yay! After he left I set the table with fancy dishes. And I made a breakfast casserole that needs to chill overnight. Then I planned the time schedule for the next day, bought stuff on eBay, did karaoke, and went to bed. I'm glad to say that ALL WEEK my ear behaved fine.
Interviews, Articles, Mentions:

My friend Kirb asked me to sing on a few holiday songs with him and it was adorable and hilarious. He has a whole Christmas album that's like an hour long, and it's mostly him and others singing, but here are codes to jump to the specific songs that I sang with him on:

Health Plan Update:

  • Weight stuff: The scale and I were not acquainted (again) this week. No data!

  • Nutrition stuff: I only missed my protein goal one day this week! Improvement. Unfortunately, in the next week or so we will probably see that drop off again 'cause I'm eating up leftovers from gatherings. Still taking vitamins, including the new B vitamins.

  • Activity stuff: I'm continuing to do aerobics or DDR every other day. I made my 10,000-step walking goal every day this week. My low day was Saturday at 10,010 steps, and my high day was Thursday at 14,401 steps.

Personal Digest Saturday: December 13 – December 19

    Life news this week:

    • Saturday I started out with a pretty bad ear day but the symptoms had almost disappeared by nighttime. When I got up I was lazy for a while because I was cold. Then I did aerobics and got warmed up. I put up holiday decorations and tried to listen to a reaction video but the reactor kept talking in circles so I had to stop watching her. Then I organized some music playlists, updated my music binder, vacuummed the house, and worked on my blog. Finally I did some more work on my book and playlists.

    • Sunday I was up later than I wanted to be but it was fine. I had time for breakfast and coffee before Jeaux picked me up to go eat at Vallarta's and then we went shopping. Meg is trying to sell her house and got her first walk-through scheduled. Very cool. I bought a few holiday presents online and did my chores. Lit my Hanukkah candles for Day 1! Happily, my ear behaved all day.

    • Monday was eventful at work. I had to read a letter, set up another research proposal, do timesheets, invite team members, and deal with utilities. After work I did DDR and ate a bunch of Cheerios. Put up a band names poll for our members. Watched some videos that had been converted for my dad. Planned some recipes and worked on my book. My ear behaved again!

    • Tuesday was a weird day. Some was normal--I went to work and wrangled teaming information, and I replanted some plants. The very good stuff was that Meg got an offer on her house and accepted it! And I worked on my book some more. But the bad thing was that my sister's dog Yoshi passed away after a diagnostic procedure--not expected at all and very sad! Awful. At least I can say my ear was also very well behaved.

    • Wednesday I went to work but was distracted. I did some analysis of crash data and some cleanup. I did some dishes, had a pest control visit, played DDR, puta way laundry, and prepared Christmas recipes. Jeaux came over and we ate at Grain and Berry, then went shopping and watched silly videos like usual. I got to hear a preview of the third episode of an audio story show I'm in--I finally make my entrance in that one, and I get to sing. :) My ear did a weird rumbly thing for long enough that I got irritated, but then it went away and I was fine the rest of the night.

    • Thursday I had to rearrange some data and go to a meeting at work. I talked to my sister on the phone for a while, mostly about what happened with her pup but some catching up and chatting about health and other things too. After that I wrote my comic, updated Christmas recipes, did some voice-over auditions, sent in a query, and did some Polos. Went to game night. Then listened to the next episode of the detective show I'm in. Episode 2 is out! My ear was well behaved again all day.

    • Friday at work involved reports and timesheets. I had to delete programs to free space on my computer. I did some food updates for Christmas and some more drawing for my comic, then got the comic posted before jumping into exercise. My DDR pad was misbehaving so I did aerobics instead. Went to bed early because of weird tiredness. And still no problems with my ear again.
    Health Plan Update:

    • Weight stuff: The scale and I were not acquainted (again) this week. No data!

    • Nutrition stuff: I met the protein goal 3 out of 7 days. Dang. What's up with that? I'm still taking my vitamins, including the new B vitamins.

    • Activity stuff: I'm continuing to do aerobics or DDR every other day. I made my 10,000-step walking goal every day this week. My low day was Saturday at 10,185 steps, and my high day was Tuesday at 16,793 steps.

Personal Digest Saturday: December 6 – December 12

      Life news this week:

      • Saturday I got up late but still made it to the post office before it closed at noon (before coffee!) to drop off another one of Meg's eBay sales. Spent the day working on my blog, cleaning up in the house, and listening to an EPIC reaction while playing games. Then I took a Lyft car to my dad's holiday party and enjoyed the wonderful food and lovely company. My dad had arranged a karaoke service for the event so I sang a couple times and got a small fan club. Managed to eat a LITTLE dessert before heading home. Then I did some voice recordings--one was pickups for a voice acting role, and the other was some Christmas songs I'm singing with a friend. Unfortunately, after a long hiatus, my ear symptoms came back on Saturday night. I like to track the severity of the issue just to have an idea, so let's say it was a 3 in the AM and a 10 in the PM.

      • Sunday I relaxed with a game and listening to an analysis on YouTube. Then I evaluated some recordings of band songs and sent feedback to the group. Straightened up the house, played DDR, and did my chores (trash and laundry). Kari stopped by with pizza and was sympathetic about my ear problem. She gave me some pointers. After she left I did some exercises and stretches she recommended. (Sometimes weird ear symptoms are connected to muscle tightness or other connected tissue. But it did not help.) Worked on my book editing. Ear stuff was a 7 in the AM, 10 in the PM.

      • Monday I went back to work. Went to a meeting about a proposal and did some accounting data entry. Walked a package to the Post Office. Talked to Meg on Polo. Did some holiday shopping. Worked very hard on editing my book and got a lot chopped. Recorded some new auditions for voice acting. Ear status: 8 in the AM, 10 in the PM.

      • Tuesday I did some proposal editing at work, then organized some teaming requests. Played DDR and my feet were unhappy. Later I did some Polos for my sister. Worked on my book. Texted with my sister about holiday presents and Steven Universe merch. I did more of those exercises. Ear stuff was 9 in the AM, 5 in the PM.

      • Wednesday I finalized teams at work and did some data entry on my inventory contract. Did a bunch of household chores (putting away laundry, dishes, etc.). Did some more holiday shopping. Jeaux came early. We bought some plants at Lowe's, ate at Saki to celebrate him getting an A in his chemistry class, and did our grocery shopping. We shared annoying online stories with each other and watched two more anime episodes (Secrets of the Silent Witch). After he left I talked to my online friend and submitted a new query. Ear stuff was a 4 in the AM, 7 in the PM.

      • Thursday I did data entry for the inventory contract and worked on a proposal all day. Did a Polo for Meg. Cold day! I did some aerobics, wrote my comic, and went to game night to play with pals. Did some drawing and actually finished all the comic images before bed. Submitted a short story. Ear stuff was an 8 in the AM, 2 in the PM.

      • Friday I started the day with a meeting, then worked on timesheets, finalizing a proposal, and the inventory data entry. After work I did a Polo for Meg, did some reading, did a karaoke song, did more holiday shopping, recorded the last couple Christmas songs for my friend, and was cold again for most of the day. Ear stuff was a 3 in the AM, 9 in the PM.
      Health Plan Update:

      • Weight stuff: The scale and I were not acquainted this week. No data!

      • Nutrition stuff: I managed to meet the protein goal 4 out of 7 days (missed it on both the days I had outside-the-home meals), and the remaining day I only missed it by a little. I did this weird thing a couple days where I fell asleep before eating my final fruit servings, too. And I'm still taking my vitamins. I have added B vitamins starting Wednesday on Meghan's suggestion just in case that's causing any issues with my ear.

      • Activity stuff: I'm continuing to do aerobics or DDR every other day. I made my 10,000-step walking goal every day this week. My low day was Friday at 10,058 steps, and my high day was Tuesday at 16,680 steps.

Personal Digest Saturday: November 29 – December 5

        Life news this week:

        • Saturday I got up kinda late and worked on various projects, including blogging, learning new songs, and filming a video. I processed the video and posted it, worked on my So You Write script, and played DDR. Then worked on the comics and the photo log. Sent a Polo to my sister. Practiced music, sketched out my comic, and submitted a short story. Packed for Sarasota and practiced music more. Had a really bad day with my foot sadly.

        • Sunday I got up later than I meant to, which left me not much time to finish breakfast and I had to bring my coffee with me to go to band practice. Dad and I made a practice list which made the practice go much more smoothly so we didn't have to dither about what song to do next. We'll do that in the future too. We had a really good practice and almost all our songs were prepared. Dad and I ate at Ford's and when I got home I did laundry and took out trash. I found out my friend Michael, whom I affectionately called Pirate Mike, has passed away, so that derailed the rest of my night. Kari came over to distract-slash-comfort me, which was very nice of her. Finally then I finished So You Write and posted it. I didn't bother to try concentrating on anything else.

        • Monday I filed some stuff at work and sent reminders to people. Walked to the post office, did a Polo, did some aerobics, napped, did dishes, and read old journals. Did another Polo for my sister and did more laundry. Got the 2002 photo log done. Posted my goals update on my blogs.

        • Tuesday I had some proposal meetings and project meetings. I also did some research. Then I did some dish washing, listened to a new episode of a show I'm in that released (but I'm not in the episode), and chatted with one of my friends who wants to do some Christmas duets on his YouTube. Cute! Did some reading. Put away laundry, did some Polos, and got annoyed because I got minor rumbles from my ear and I thought that whole thing was over with, but I guess there are some residual things going on. Hopefully it will not have a resurgence to what it was last month.

        • Wednesday I got to do some editing on a letter and went to a meeting. Did some DDR and sent in a query. Went out with Jeaux and ate at Mandola's, grocery shopped, and showed each other silly stuff. Jeaux helped repair my DDR pad again when one of the buttons was working unpredictably.

        • Thursday I went to the post office early. Later I edited a proposal and we submitted it after a meeting. I sent some Polos and wrote my comic and played silly games. Went to game night with pals, and my friend Kari brought my brownies. Then I drew the comic, submitted a short story, and got too tired to do anything else.

        • Friday I did my usual reports at work. After, I did the rest of my drawings in between listening to news and music. Talked about Steven Universe merchandise with an online contact. Posted my comic, played DDR, and sent a Polo to Steve.
        New Reviews:
        • Jia Yi gave The Invisible Orientation a one-star review on Goodreads (in French). (Based on the translation, it seems the reader believed some sensitive discussions I included comparing aromantic and heterosexual experience were absurd because "aromantic and heterosexual people have NOTHING in common"--and that it was transphobic of me to include the term "transromantic," which was coined by trans people for trans people's use to express that they're only interested in other trans people.)

        Health Plan Update:

        • Weight stuff: I again only got on the scale a couple times this week so I have incomplete data. High number was 118.7 pounds and low number was 118.0.

        • Nutrition stuff: I only met my protein goals 2 days out of 7--I guess it's partly because of having desserts in my house. I did still get all my fruits and veggies too. And I'm still taking my vitamins.

        • Activity stuff: I'm continuing to do aerobics or DDR every other day. I made my 10,000-step walking goal every day this week. My low day was Tuesday at 10,222 steps, and my high day was Wednesday at 16,278 steps.
        Books Read:

        • Finished Reading: Nothing this week.

        • Currently Reading: Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. I'm on page 76.

          November Goals Update

Hey, hey, there, December. I guess I gotta tell the world how November went as far as my goals.

          1. Health Goals: I resolved to continue drinking an appropriate amount of water (around 4 glasses a day), eat 3 servings of fruits and veggies a day and keep my nutrition balanced, and walk at least 10,000 steps a day plus add in an aerobic activity every other day.

          2. Personal Project Goals: I resolved to keep working on getting photos sorted as the first stop on a website rebuild; resolved to work on writing three days a week and submissions when I can; resolved to relearn ukulele songs I've forgotten and learn new ones, keep creating my regular webcomic and video content, and get some small voice acting gigs.

          3. Reading Goals: I resolved to read at least twice a week.

          4. Relationship and Communication Goals: I resolved to document daily life stuff more, keep up with e-mails and online communication, and make time for friends and family.

          5. Other Goals: Get rid of some things in my garage, paint the pillar, keep the house clean, watch some backed up TV shows, and avoid biting my nails.

          Progress Update:

          HEALTH GOALS:

Summary: I didn't have specific weight goals and have mostly not visited the scale, but this month I got back on it a few times just to see where I am, and ya know. It'd be nice if that number was something else. I'm also not overly concerned about it. I'm still hitting the three-fruits-and-veggies-a-day goal most days, but still kinda struggling with the protein goals a lot. I may need to investigate some additional sources that I like eating. Water goals have been okay this month, though I missed my four-glass goal a few times, and I've continued with exercise (still mostly aerobics, but I did get in some DDR too) and taking vitamins. Here is my Health calendar of progress:

(Click these calendars and they will expand so you can actually read them!)

          PERSONAL PROJECT GOALS:

          Summary:

EDITING: The book has completed its second edit. It's at 140,000 words and change. I built an outline as I read and have now spent a couple days digging through it from a bird's-eye view, and have identified a few things to cut, a few things to summarize/fold into other chapters, and quite a few things to shorten. Third edit proper will start soon.

          SUBMISSIONS:
No new news about agents or short story sales; if I don't have another sale in December, I'll be at only one sale this year, which is kinda sucky. I did also enjoy the cover reveal that came out last month for the book I wrote an introduction to.

          Writing Progress:

PHOTO PROJECT: I buckled down and got a ton done on the photo project, but I'm still not done. I have completed back to 2002, with the help of journals (which is why it takes so long), but the journals end at the beginning of the year 2000, so after that it will be a lot of guesswork. Hopefully I can get this done before the end of the year.

UKULELE PRACTICE: I don't have an active goal with this right now since I met my goal earlier this year learning all the songs I assigned myself. I pick it up and noodle sometimes but I am not really practicing anything.

VOICE ACTING: Last month's multi-tier audition ended in success: I got the lead role in an upcoming audio thriller. I have completed my recording under a pretty tight deadline and we'll see how it sounds when it comes out. I also landed another role immediately after I got this one (also the lead role!), but I'm not sure if anything will happen because the creator of the project has not contacted me with any instructions. And the first project I recorded lines for at the beginning of this year finally released its first episode. My contribution to two roles is in the first episode. Others are cooking and coming out soon; the second episode of a fantasy show coming out shortly should have my voice in it during one scene, and a couple other shows are coming up on my parts or releasing this month.

          Here's the Projects Calendar:

          READING GOALS:

Summary: This has really been my worst goal this year--trying to read twice a week ended up being twice a month this time. I always say something's gotta give, but I do wish I was making time for this more consistently. The issue is that I don't schedule it, so it happens whenever, and sometimes that's never.

          Progress:

          RELATIONSHIP AND COMMUNICATION GOALS:

Summary: Besides Jeaux Day and Game Night, my social life included a movie hangout, a Thanksgiving dinner at my dad's, and three band practices! Plus some doctor's appointments and company interviews which aren't social but do have to go on the calendar. I don't owe anyone any e-mails, so that's nice. I haven't improved on the documentation goals I've had. Still just as disappointing.
